Course content ( maximum 700 characters) The course provides a general knowledge to the students about the Holy Scripture. It starts with common introduction into the vast field of the biblical sciences, their main topics and concentrates over the Introduction into the Old Testament. The main content of the course acquaint the students with the pre biblical visions of the world: theism, pantheism, atheism. After it it is dealing with the Revelation, its monotheistic understanding and the inspiration of the Holy Scripture. Further it deals with the biblical criticism and its methodology. The students are facing the confessional differences towards the Holy Scripture, the formation of the biblical canon – its historical appearing. It includes the division of the Canon in the Hebrew bible, Septuagint and the Bulgarian bible. There is given enough space to the appearing of the non canonical and apocrypha books. It is traced also the process of translation of the Holy Scripture in different languages, starting with Septuaginta, Vulgata and finishing with Bulgarian. At the end they are proposed separate introductions with the different biblical books.
Assessment method 20% - presence; 10% participation; 70% presentation of a written paper topic
